Artist Yayoi Kusama in her studio in the psychiatric hospital in Tokyo and back in the days in her New York studio.

Having suffered nervous disorders and hallucinations since childhood, Kusama has chosen to live in a Tokyo psychiatric hospital for the past 38 years, and has built herself a studio opposite. Health permitting, she still makes a daily journey from the hospital to her studio to paint.

Today would’ve been Donna Summer’s 65th birthday. Her passing was so sudden and the bulk of fans (including myself) had no idea that she was battling lung cancer. This woman was very special to me, I miss her as if I knew her personally. She was one of the most phenomenal vocalists to ever grace a stage. Donna maintained a career while raising children and in the latter, struggled with illness and yet carried herself with grace and poise through it all. So many wrote her off after the disco era but as you can see, Donna has a huge catalog well worth the investment of looking into. I hope the next generation appreciates her, even in death…the music lives on. Happy 65th Birthday Donna Summer!
